Sentinel of Bifröst

In Norse mythology, Heimdall is the guardian of the rainbow bridge Bifröst and is destined to sound Gjallarhorn, warning the Æsir of Ragnarök where he will slay Loki.

This was my July submission for Sketchy Business. The theme was mythology. Check it out!

Jerry Loomy

I drew this one a while back for the Stephen Silver character design class. This was based on a character profile of a sleazy used-car salesman we were given.

Meddling with backgrounds

I'm going to preface by saying that I really haven't attempted working with backgrounds before, but I got inspired to whip up something simple in Photoshop after having read through Hans Bacher's Dream Worlds. Here's the final along with a couple of thumbnail sketches.

This one is just a quick sketch from a photograph with some shapes and colours blocked in.

I was getting bored of the old blog template, so I figured I'd update it. Let me know what you think.

Memory Sketchin'

One of the drawing exercises stressed by Stephen Silver in his character design course was doing memory sketches: taking a mental note of someone you see in life and trying to capture them on paper. I saw this old man sitting by himself at the mall.

Passchenblog

It's been a while since I've done much doodling of my own, so I figured I'd jump back into the mix of things. Here's a rough sketch of a French soldier of the first world war that I whipped up this morning.

Profiles

Ah jeez, looks like I haven't updated this thing a while. Just some quick drawing exercises in the ol' Adobe Photoshop.

Atra!

For a while now, I've been playing around with the idea of creating a character that I can keep coming back to do draw, learn from and hopefully refine in design and character. I really wanted to make a caveman; the paleolithic era and human evolution are topics that I find profoundly interesting. I named him 'Atra'.

Another goal of mine was to become more acquainted with 3D software and modeling, and I figured, what better way to start than with Atra. This is my first my attempt at using Zbrush and was fun as hell to put together, so hopefully there'll be more to come.
